Moon sign calculator
Find your Moon sign: the part of you that needs comfort, safety and closeness, and the one a partner meets in everyday life.
How it works
The Moon is the fastest body in the chart: it crosses a sign in about 54 hours. The calculator uses a table of all its sign changes from 1920 to 2030, almost eighteen thousand of them, computed with Astronomy Engine in the tropical zodiac and accurate to about a minute.
Your birth time is converted to universal time with your birth city's time-zone history. The city list includes about twelve thousand towns with more than fifty thousand people (GeoNames data). If you leave the time empty, the calculator checks the whole day. On roughly four days out of ten the Moon changes sign, and then it shows both signs and the time of the change.
Example
On 21 June 1996 the Moon moved from Leo into Virgo at 13:07 London time. A person born in London at 14:30 has the Moon in Virgo; someone born that morning has the Moon in Leo. That is why the birth time matters more for the Moon than for any other planet.
Questions
- What is a Moon sign?
- It is the sign the Moon was in at your birth. It describes emotional needs, instincts and what makes you feel safe, which in a relationship often matters more day to day than the Sun sign.
- What if I don't know my birth time?
- Leave the time empty. If the Moon stayed in one sign all day, the result is certain. If it changed sign, you will see both options; reading both pages usually makes it clear which one sounds like you.
- Why do you ask for the city?
- To convert your local clock time to universal time correctly, including daylight saving time. Without a city, the time zone of your device is used.
- Is my data stored?
- No. The calculation happens in your browser. The date, time and city are not sent to this site or anyone else.
