Mars sign calculator
Find the sign Mars was in when you were born: how you go after what you want, what turns you on and how you deal with anger.
How it works
Mars takes about two years to travel through the zodiac. It usually spends six to seven weeks in a sign and up to seven months when it turns retrograde. The calculator looks up a table of every Mars sign change from 1920 to 2030, computed with Astronomy Engine in the tropical zodiac and accurate to about a minute.
Your local birth date and time are converted to universal time with the time zone of your birth city. Without a time, the whole day is checked; if Mars changed sign that day, you see both signs and the moment it moved.
Example
For 21 June 1996, 14:30, London, Mars is in Gemini. It entered Gemini on 12 June and left on 25 July 1996, so everyone born in those six weeks has the same Mars sign: a flirt who pursues with words, questions and humour.

Questions
- What does my Mars sign mean?
- Mars shows how you act on desire: how you pursue someone, what you find sexy, how you compete and how you get angry. In relationships it is read together with Venus.
- Is Mars more important for men?
- No. Older books linked Mars with men and Venus with women, but every chart has both. Each person attracts with Venus and pursues with Mars in their own mix.
- Why do people born months apart share a Mars sign?
- Mars moves slowly compared with the Sun, and during a retrograde it can stay in one sign for half a year. That is why the dates differ so much from Sun-sign dates.
- Do I need my birth time?
- Rarely. Only if Mars changed sign on your birth date; the calculator tells you when that happens.
